I love these shoes - no break-in period and quite stylish. I have fallen arches and the arch support is wonderful. I can walk all day in these shoes. When I first received the shoes it felt a little loose but after adjusting the straps they fit perfectly. I received my shoes within one week. I'll be ordering more Mephistos from Zappos.

The perfect sandal - Love these shoes so much I ordered a second pair a week later. Little break in and excellent arch support. Due to my heel spur, Mephisto shoes are the only brand that I can wear without my custom orthotic. Thank you Mephisto!

Five Star Wonder - These shoes are comfortable right out of the box. The straps don't rub even in my area's incredible humid summers. The style works with very casual jeans and dressier slacks or skirts.

Great all-purpose sandal - Great, super supportive sandal that can look good with everything. I've been wearing Mephisto for 12 years and can't say enough about them. I also like how all the shoes that begin with the same letter have the same footbed. All the "H"s (Hannel, Helen, Heidi) all fit the same. The do run a smidge big if you ask me. Strangely, they didn't use to. Twelve years ago I was a perfect 5 and now I found it a bit on the long side. I put this new Hannel up against my old ones and there is a difference.

Great Sandal! Fit is true to size, comfort is extraordinary! Got rid of cheap flip flops - all I need is this shoe. Great with casual dresses/skirts, pants, shorts. Will most likely buy more colors in the future. Would like to see more "high end" looks like the black patent leather, to get away from the "granola" look.

The Ahhhh Shoe - For years I have had a problem with my feet. I am flat footed and it is really hard to find a comfortable shoe. About 6 months ago a shoe salesman talked me in to trying the Hannel on and I have not had them off since. I now own 3 pairs. Recently I developed plantar Fasciitis (VERY PAINFULL) My foot surgeon picked up my shoe and said "This is the best shoe made" I could not wear them for a couple of weeks, but am now better and my feet are happy again.

Hannel - I have a narrow foot and I ordered these in narrow. Out of all the others they came the closest to the fit. Still a little wide but the footbed is heaven.

Very, very comfortable sandal - This sandal is amazing - feels like it was made just for my foot and it felt this way right out of the box. Worth the money and cute as well. Feels Great! I literally sigh when I put these sandals on; they feel so good. Like putting on a new pair of feet. I have foot problems; so I'm all about finding a comfortable, supportive shoe that's not completely ugly. The arch support is incredible. Just wish they made an enclosed, casual shoe with this kind of footbed. I love the Mephisto Sydel also. UK 41 is equal to US 10.5 in my opinion.

Cute little Cyclops shoe - I love my Mephisto Hannels, which are almost as comfy as my Birkenstocks (I have wide feet, but these Mephistos do OK). The arch support isn't quite as wonderful as with Birks, but I walk to work in Mephistos quite comfortably (8 blocks). I love the dressier design, with the thicker heel, but wonder why they put the front buckle in the middle. When I look down at my feet I see 'cyclops' every time; people probably wonder why I'm snickering to myself. Now they know. I forgot to mention I followed Mephisto's recommendations and bought a full size larger than I most of the time wear, and that worked out well for me.

Sandals that look stylish AND feel wonderful!! I bought these shoes for an upcoming trip abroad. I needed sandals that I could use for support and comfort while touring. Out of the box, walk a kilometer - I run a summer study abroad program in Siracusa, Sicily for my undergraduate college students. After a few years of aching sore feet, I went on an all-out safari seeking the just-right sandal. These Mephisto’s comfortably support a morning traipse through the ancient ruins, an afternoon shopping jaunt on the ancient stone streets, a 1 kilometer walk to our favorite seafood trattoria, and a midnight stroll to watch the squid fishermen haul in their catch. Not Everything I Had Hoped For - I've been a fan of Mephisto's Helen sandal for years. I've trekked all over Mexico for months in the Helen shoes...hard, uneven cobblestone streets with no pain and no sores for over 2 months. I've owned Helen shoes for 7 years. Then, I decided that I wanted another Mephisto sandal that I could wear with socks for cooler weather. So I ordered the Hannel because it has the Helen footbed. I like them, but I definitely do NOT love them. They are taking quite a bit of time to get broken in...Or perhaps they just will never be as comfortable as the Helen sandal. The leather keeps pinching/rubbing my little toe and the ball/toe footbed seems to be a bit narrow for my feet. The narrow footbed keeps forcing my toes together when I walk causing red spots. That is, my toes are not allowed to spread with each stride. But, I have not given up on these shoes yet...I've been wearing them for about 3 weeks. I've tried socks with them...still some discomfort, but not exorbitant. The arch support is excellent. And the heel cushion is excellent. The silver buckles are a bit ugly to me; but not worrisome enough to not purchase this sandal. Overall, a nice sandal, but not Mephisto's best.

These were very comfortable from the first time I put them on. I also really like the style. I've tried different styles of Birkenstocks, but they never seemed to fit right. I couldn't wear them long enough for the cork to conform to my feet, and the arch support actually hurt. I haven't worn these sandals long enough for the cork to conform to my feet, but they are comfortable now, so I expect them to get more comfortable with time. Highly recommended. For sizing, I kind of followed the advice of previous posters. I most of the time wear a size 7 wide, or 7.5 medium. I purchased the size 8 (38) in this shoe and it fits very well.

Happy feet in West Virginia - I am a licensed massage therapist and also do a lot of hiking and biking. My knees give me lots of problems and finding the correct shoe is so important. This shoe is amazing, the moment I put it on my feet my feet and knees felt wonderful. The foot bed although it is cork is a soft and comfortable feel on my feet. I have wide feet and a bunion on my right foot was nervous about purchasing these, but it worked all day. Shopped all day and no knee pain which never happens. I have 3 pair of Mephistos and every pair is wonderful. Also for me it helped to go another whole size bigger like the previous reviews. Thanks again. You do get what you pay for and I am now saving for my next Mephistos.

Not true white - I ordered a pair of these in white, but the shoe is actually two-toned in color. The footbed is white, but the upper leather straps are not pure white - more like an off-white sand color.

Shoe with a purpose - knee replacement!!! I love sandals - love Zappos too, but I will not be able to wear many of my sandals while my knee is healing from total knee replacement. My goal was to find a good supportive slip-on shoe - I do not want to "flop" around in slippers. I now have Hannel is both the tan/brown and black. Honestly, I believe these are more supportive and definitely look more stylish than my Birkies - Arizonia. These sandals are cute and the adjustable straps are a bonus. So, now when I am moving slowly down the hall in the hospital I will be comfortable, stylish, and stable. Great shoe well worth the price and it is after all a Mephisto!!! OK, so I finally got up the courage to wear these. They cost so much, they sat in the box looking pretty for a while before I dared to wear them outside. They went perfectly with my outfit. I looked wonderful in them : ) I felt rich wearing them. I watched to see if anyone was looking at my feet... I'm saving to buy a pair of "Helen's" next. In white. This shoe has Birk's beat all to heck. I wish they came in half sizes for those of us who are a true half size because they will be a little too long or a little too short for us as is. I have only worn them once for about 4 hours shopping and had no problems. I plan to wear them more now that I dared to wear them outside for the first time. I'll have the best dressed feet in my neck of the woods. Too bad I don't live in a state where I could wear shoes all year round. To those who do...you lucky dogs!

Like other Mephisto styles better - I love the footbed, very good for high arches that need support. I have the Helen and love that shoe. I was somewhat disappointed with this shoe because I wanted to adjust the strap over my toes smaller as there is another hole -- but the strap is too thick in the design to be able to adjust down -- so why have the buckle there? I also agree that the straps is rough and hard on the toes. Overall just not as comfortable as the Mephisto Helen style.

Better than Berks for me - I didn't think any sandal could be more comfortable than my Birkenstocks. This shoe has even better arch support. Additionally, my heel is not quite as low as it is when I wear my Birks and this seems better for my back. Recommendations were to go up a size. I wish I had not. I wear an 8, ordered a 9 and the 9 is too long. It seems to run true to size rather than smaller than marked.

Love these shoes - I have 3 pairs of these shoes and love them. These and the style called Helen (I have 6 pairs of Helen) and have been lifesavers for me during the warmer months because of plantar fasciitis. I first tried Helen when I was initially diagnosed and have to say that they did more to heal my feet than my custom orthotics did. Hannel and Helen have identical insoles so the work the same for me. I only wish I could find regular sandals for the colder and wetter months that worked as well for my feet as these shoes do. Also, I have tried other Mephisto sandals and shoes (with different insoles) and have found them to be too narrow for me. I most of the time have to order a wide but the Hannel and Helen work perfectly for my wide feet.

Everyday Shoe - I wear this shoe almost everyday - summer and winter. I wear them with a heavier sock in the winter, of course. The sandals have held up extremely well and I can recommend them without reservation. They mold to the foot and just become more comfortable. Hannel: “MAGIC” shoe, or foe? Zappos company is the best!! These comment sections are helpful. The first "Hannel" sandal I purchased is a little too long, but I endured thinking I would break it in. Instead, it hurt the metatarsal area of my foot because the arch isn't in the correct position (most likely). I think it is because the shoe is too long. So I ordered the "Hannel" sandal one size smaller. It seems to be okay, although I haven't yet broken it in. I'll try one more time and let you know. This is however a superior shoe for most people. Two of my friends think this "Hannel" has a "Magic" foot-bed. I would agree and will tell you after I try the correct size. I can sense the potential. I don't recommend getting it too large because one's arch could be in the wrong position. That would cause pain and defeat the purpose of this unusual shoe. I am waiting for the "Magic" to hit. Meanwhile my foot still hurts from having a size too large. Also, if the shoe is too large the arch will feel like a "lump" under the foot. The right size will feel right in the arch, I think.

Bragging about my Hannel sandal bucks. I have been a Birkenstock fan for many years. Recently however, I purchased a pair of Mephisto sandal buck shoes. Since powder blue is one of my favorite colors, I bought the shoes in Sea Blue. From the moment I tried them on, I felt so comfortable in them. I have a very high instep and I need arch support since my foot is short and chubby, and the Hannel shoes fit the bill just perfectly for me. I wear the shoes now, during the summer, with denim clothing and especially jeans. I am amazed how many people will stop me and compliment me on the shoes. I love the shoes and will soon order two more pairs in other colors. I plan a trip to Spain and Portugal in November, 2006, and I will take my shoes with me, since we plan to do a lot of walking.

Mephisto review - The only complaint I have is that the leather straps are rough on the under side and do not seem to be as high a quality leather as other Mephisto sandals I have bought in stores. I had to sand the inside of the straps to make them acceptable and on reflection probably should have returned them.

Mephisto Hannel Sandal - This sandal is very expensive for its comfort level. However, it looks wonderful on, and goes well with everything without looking "sloppy". The fit is good, although the footbed of this sandal is not as comfortable as it should have been! Mephisto is a good company for design & durability. Note of size: Mephisto size 40 is indicated as a US size 10. I do not wear a size 10 in any shoe but this company's...I am a true size 9M.

Mephisto's Hannel Sandal - I love this sandal. I considered returning them because I bought new Keen's at the same time and didn't think I could afford both pairs. But when I came into some unexpected cash, I decided to start wearing my Mephistos. Am I ever glad I kept them. My heel pain disappeared when I got good arch support from these shoes…I have extra wide feet and actually buy an 8-1/2 or 9, but in the Hannel the 9 worked best. Although Mephisto's are expensive they are worth every penny if they give you such comfort.

Comfortable shoes - I bought these shoes in the beige color and they are extremely comfortable. They needed no breaking-in period, as I was able to walk in them for hours upon receiving them, with no discomfort at all (no blisters either). I also like the way they look--they seem more flattering than Birkenstocks. I wear a 7 or 7 1/2 and ordered a 38, which are just about right (they are ever so slightly too long).

Mephisto Hannel - This is the first pair of Mephisto’s I've owned and they are wonderful! I've stopped wearing all my other shoes and am saving to buy another pair. I hesitated to buy them at first because I have a narrow foot and haven't been comfortable wearing 'Birkenstock type' sandals. But Hannel's two adjustable straps make these wearable for my narrow foot and the excellent arch support helps keep my foot in place. As recommended by Mephisto I ordered up one size (39) but they were huge so I had to send them back and order my usual size (38). Their service is first rate and faster than any other on-line retailer I've bought from. Some people who've bought this shoe have recommended it as a walking shoe. I'm able to walk well enough in it for the usual walking I do throughout the day. But I find a walk of any distance is difficult because of the lack of ankle strap. The tradeoff for me is my feet and ankles don't swell in the summer heat wearing Hannel. This is a superb sandal. My only complaint is that I wish Mephisto made the foot bed a little narrower.

Very comfortable! These sandals offer wonderful comfort without looking clunky. They are extremely comfortable. Definitely order a size up. I actually wear a 7 or 38 but ordered an 8 or 39, which fits me perfectly.

No foot pain. These shoes are very comfortable. I can walk very little when barefooted, but have no problem in these. I most of the time wear size 8 or 8 1/2, but the size 9's are just right. The straps felt stiff the first day, but were perfect afterwards--no digging or cuts. They had a funny smell from the beginning, but since my feet don't hurt in them, I can live with it. The orange ones are cute.

The Best - These are wonderful looking shoes -- I've gotten compliments on them every time I wear them! -- And SO comfortable. I have plantar fasciitis and am on my feet much of the day & have had no pain at the end of the day which is amazing! I just ordered two more pairs in other colors! About the sizing -- I most of the time wear a 9, so ordered the 10 as recommended, but they were too long so had to exchange them for the 9 (however with the Mephisto Helen's, I DID need the 10!).

I suffered from Plantar Fasciitis (sometimes referred to as Heel spur) for over a year, and was able to wear anything but athletic sandals with orthotics. Fab! I have this sandal in black and beige, and could not resist this lovely tangerine color. To my taste, it is the most comfortable of all the Mephisto shoes. It has the full cork sole, and just a bit of a raised heel. In the past, I have had several bouts of Plantar Fasciitis, and so I am really careful about finding sandals with good support and cushioning. These really baby my feet. Mephisto Hannel rocks!

Worth The Money - I have extremely high arches and plantar fasciitis. I'm thrilled to find Mephisto shoes because I can finally wear shoes without orthotics for several hours with no pain. These don't provide quite the arch support that the Mephisto Helen sandal does, but they are close (and they are much more fashionable). I'm actually cheap, but these are worth every penny.

These are my favorite Mephisto’s now - This is my 8th pair of Mephisto shoes in various styles and this is my favorite, by far! Mephisto Hannel Scores with Me- I'm a fan of Mephisto sandals. Mostly I like the Elka and Helen, but when I saw a Hannel on sale, I tried it. My dream is but a dream. I have longed for a pair of Mephisto shoes for years as I have a difficult foot with lots of problems. I have worn only good proper sport sandals everyday until I got my Hannels. My life has changed for now I, too, have shoes. Sandals that are also good for your feet. My podiatrist smiled at my shoes. BUT, they are not the comfortable dream I had imagined but when you have a proper sandal who say you are going to get a pillow beneath your soles? I am still attempting to wear them everyday to get familiar enough that I don't have to think about them as I go about my business of the day. But who cares?? I have my Mephistos after all.

Extreme comfort - Super comfortable shoes- no break-in period. I have a narrow foot and the fact that the straps are adjustable made all the difference. I most of the time wear an orthotics but don't need it with these. They go wonderful with casual clothes and they also work pretty well with the funky "global" look that's in now.

Great shoe for problem feet! I've previously worn Birkenstock shoes and had been looking for a new style and color when I came across these. They give me the same wonderful arch support, especially for pronation, and the lining is very soft and comfortable. Kind of an 'aahhhh' feeling when I put them on! Good arch support...for certain feet - One of my arches is a touch higher than the other. For that foot, the shoe is super comfortable. For the other foot, the arch on this shoe is a bit uncomfortable when I walk long distances - it pushes back. For someone with narrowish feet or high arches, this is probably a wonderful shoe.

Stretching straps - I love the look and the footbed is incredibly comfortable, but the nubuck straps stretched out too much (even after adjusting the buckles) and the sandals are loose. They 'flap' too much when I walk, which defeats the purpose of getting them--I wanted a sandal w/support, and I thought the instep strap would keep them snug against my foot.

walk all day - These sandals look better on than they do in the photo, less clunky. And, as always, Mephisto's feel amazing when you walk, but the brand doesn't really accommodate half sizes well, so if you're an 8 1/2 it's better to order a size 9. The suede sole feels wonderful on a hot day- no slipping around in your shoes.

The perfect shoe - This is the most comfortable shoe I have. I have nerve problems in my feet and can only wear cork footbeds now. The pink is perfect, I just wish it came in green and lavender as well. Sorry, I can't comment on arch support since I really don't have much of one.

Totally different fit than HELEN - I thought that this shoe would have the same comfort as the marvelous Helen Mephisto. I was wrong. I have had foot pain since the first day of wearing. This is a disappointment as I have been a faithful Mephisto customer for many years. I have tried adjusting the straps but that does not work. This is just something that bothers my feet in this shoe. Consequently, I have only worn them twice. After the first time, I thought that it was something that I was not used to. After wearing it a second time, I have concluded it is the shoe.

Repeat purchase of shoes - September 9, 2008 A month ago I purchased my fourth pair of Mephisto Hannel shoes. This is a very comfortable sandal for my high instep. I have worn Hannels on my yearly trips to Europe for the past four years and am planning another trip to Paris this coming October. I walk my legs off on each trip and I have not experienced any tiredness nor foot problems. The shoes also do not show any significant sign of wear. They are pricier than most, but worth every cent. Additionally, Zappos service is top-notch.

Very comfortable and cute too - The foot bed is amazing and the straps are not bad--took me a couple days to get used to the upper strap, but overall extremely comfortable. Runs small, I think - I am an 8 and the 39 is perfect though they call it a 9.

Excellent shoe - I have trouble with most sandals due to no support. This shoe is very comfortable and has a good arch support which is mainly my problem in finding comfortable shoes. They came overnight!!!

Very high arches - Really nice looking sandals. I ordered the red patent and when I received them I was in love with the look. When I tried them on and walked for 2 minutes in the house, I knew that I couldn't keep them. The arches are way too high for my flat feet and they were too painful to wear. I don't think it will get better, so had to returned them. I can see them working beautifully for someone with high arches. I actually wear 39 in Mephisto but these were perfect in size 38.

Great shoe! I already have 2 pairs of this shoe, so I knew I would be happy with the pair I ordered. I was disappointed in the color. I ordered white waxy, and the shoe that arrived was an off white, beige shoe. I was hoping for a true white, but perhaps this is Mephisto's version of white. It certainly is not white. Nonetheless, it is very comfortable. It does stretch out, and additional holes on the strap would be beneficial, especially for narrow feet. For those with wide, flat feet, this sandal is perfect.

Sandal of the Year Award! This is a wonderful sandal! I have several orthopedic problems and this is the first sandal that I can wear and walk in all day and not have pain in my legs and feet at night. It is an attractive casual sandal that I have worn to work, out to dinner, and shopping. I ordered it in my usual size and one size up (as was recommended) and found that my usual size fit just fine. I love this shoe and have finally found a sandal that I can live in all day!

Love this sandal! These are wonderful shoes. They are extremely comfortable and I love the excellent arch support. I got it in the black patent which is a little dressier/sexier. My shoe size is an 8.5 to 9 and I ordered the 39 which fits perfect. If you wear a 39 in Birkenstocks, you should order a 39 in Mephisto’s. After getting these, I don't think I'll every buy another pair of Birkenstocks. These are 10 times more comfortable!

I love these shoes! I have a terrible time finding sandals/shoes--I wear a triple or quadruple A, use orthotics, and am about to have knee replacement surgery! I have pretty much given up wearing backless sandals of any kind and am only comfortable in certain Wolky or Mephisto shoes. I love slip-on shoes in the summer, though, and decided to give these a try. Much to my surprise, they're wonderful. My foot stays in them and I can adjust the straps as much as I want and cut off the ends. I'm not sure I would do a lot of walking in them but I can comfortably wear them day after day at work. And I love the patent leather which makes them spiffier.

Not Quite Wide Enough - I took a chance after reading the reviews, thinking the Mephisto Hannel might be wide enough for my foot. Unfortunately, even though the support was wonderful and the sole was very comfortable, the sole was not wide enough at the ball of my foot. I have had surgery, and a shoe must fit properly and not push my toes together. Otherwise I experience pain and burning. I was crushed, because this sandal is very comfortable (more so than Birkenstocks, even the soft ones) and more attractive on my foot than Birkenstock. However, I've decided to go with Birkenstock Orlando because they fit my foot better. Unfortunately Zappos doesn't have it in black so I've got to go elsewhere. This is the perfect shoe for someone who needs exceptional support and has a perfect B width foot or narrower. I wish Mephisto would realize we are not all made with a perfect B width foot!

Cute, but... This is a cute sandal, good with jeans or skirts. It has a very high arch, higher than I'm used to with Finn Comforts, so it's not comfortable for me to wear all day without some foot pain. But they look good and are comfortable to wear in shorter spurts. Wish Finn would come up with cuter shoes, but till then I have to compromise comfort for looks.

I am a regular Mephisto fan and wearer. I liked that these sandals had a slightly higher wedge than Mephistos I have worn in the past. I actually was hoping that the Mephistos I had last year with the rhinestone buckles were available in this height. These are a bit "strappier" in style, but In terms of comfort, these sandals live up to expectations I have for Mephistos.

Cute and comfortable, what more can you ask? My husband loves Mephisto shoes, but I always thought they're ugly and for old people. I started seeing them for women in different styles and colors and had to try them. I have bunions and these are awesome. And, they look wonderful dressed up or down. Birkenstocks tried to make cute sandals for women way back and these are far superior. They are pricey, but worth every penny since I live in them.

A wonderful sandal! The Hannel is perfect right out of the box - no breaking-in period at all. The footbed is unbelievably soft. I've worn Birks for years and there's no comparison; Mephisto is so much nicer. I told my husband, if a Birk is about a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10 comfort-wise, then Mephistos are probably a 25. Highly recommended!

Good thing for bad feet - I was having lots of foot and ankle problems; tried this in a store and my physical therapist thought it was excellent. I wear it all the time as a house shoe; I'm not allowed to go barefoot at all. Only problem is that it stretched out fairly quickly and started slopping around, but once I tightened it, it was okay. I haven't worn it out of the house! But I bought another pair to wear out. It is wonderful because the suede insole doesn't bother my sensitive feet, and it has the orthotic built in. Great for people with foot problems.

Problem feet - I have difficult feet to fit in sandals. 10 1/2 and very narrow with an arch that has fallen. I need some sandals that look half way dressy and this shoe fit the bill. I most of the time take a 41 but in this shoe I needed a 42.

Totally different fit than HELEN - I thought that this shoe would have the same comfort as the marvelous Helen Mephisto. I was wrong. I have had foot pain since the first day of wearing. This is a disappointment as I have been a faithful Mephisto customer for many years. I have tried adjusting the straps but that does not work. This is just something that bothers my feet in this shoe. Consequently, I have only worn them twice. After the first time, I thought that it was something that I was not used to. After wearing it a second time, I have concluded it is the shoe.

Repeat purchase of shoes - September 9, 2008 A month ago I purchased my fourth pair of Mephisto Hannel shoes. This is a very comfortable sandal for my high instep. I have worn Hannels on my yearly trips to Europe for the past four years and am planning another trip to Paris this coming October. I walk my legs off on each trip and I have not experienced any tiredness nor foot problems. The shoes also do not show any significant sign of wear. They are pricier than most, but worth every cent. Additionally, Zappos service is top-notch.

Surprisingly wide - This shoe was very wide. Helen was perfect, so I tried this style which disappointed me. I have the ankle strap tightened, but the toe strap is too hard. Consequently my foot feels like it is sliding.

Cute and comfortable, what more can you ask? My husband loves Mephisto shoes, but I always thought they're ugly and for old people. I started seeing them for women in different styles and colors and had to try them. I have bunions and these are awesome. And, they look wonderful dressed up or down. Birkenstocks tried to make cute sandals for women way back and these are far superior. They are pricey, but worth every penny since I live in them.

This is one of the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn! I own several Mephisto shoes (and love them all) but this one ranks as a favorite. Excellent arch support, comfortable foot bed and cute (I have the leopard print). I would highly recommend this sandal.

Ultimate comfort - I have a narrow foot and the style of this shoe with adjustable straps fits perfectly. I liked all the color choices. A wonderful comfortable every day shoe.
