My comfort for nine years - I discoved Mephisto Elka nine years ago and I have never worn another shoe since. I had been plagued with a bad back and sore feet for years and walking sandals were terrible looking. When I first bought Elka,my walking problems disappeared. I have bought them in every color available and wear nothing else. The black patent works very well for formal occasions. The styling is chic for a walking shoe. I am very warm-blooded and enjoy the coolness of Elka all year long and in every climate, including Alaska and Greece. As a senior citizen, I needed a shoe I could walk in comfortably anywhere at anytime. One word of warning; if you decide to have both black and blue pairs, be sure to dress in the light as they look alike in the dark; I wore a "pair" to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California and as we entered my date commented that "I'll bet you have a pair exactly like THAT at home". No one else seemed to notice but us, and it afforded us a good laugh.

Favorite sandals - I was happy to find this style again since I'd worn out my first pair. I have very narrow/slim feet and these adjust well for that. I had foot surgery last year and both prior to and since Elka's have been the sandals I go to first (other than tennis sandals and hiking boots). I like that they look wonderful with pants, shorts, skirts and dresses and feel good all the time.

A Mephisto classic. This is a marvelous sandal. It has good looks and wonderful comfort. The leather is initially stiff and unwelcoming, but in time it becomes friendly. It is also adjustable to fit a narrow foot.

Mephisto Elka - This is my 3rd pair of Mephisto Elka black patent. I actually bought these as a backup pair since they are versatile, comfortable, good looking and wonderful for travel. They don't look like Old Lady "comfort" shoes in the black patent. I have received a lot of compliments.

Great shoe!!! This is a fantastic shoe with support for my plantar fasciitis problem. I also have the same style with the strap on the back. I can wear these sandals for hours and my feet don't hurt. There is extra cushion built into the sole for added comfort. The size runs very true and the straps are wonderful for adjusting to my foot size. I would definitely recommend these sandals for work or casual.

Love the Elka style - This is the most comfortable sandal I own and I have it in almost every color it was available in at the time I purchased it. I always wished that I had ordered the red. The only problem I encountered was that the cork and suede interior wears out faster than the upper portion of the sandal. I would like to send them back to be reconditioned s the price has gone up some since they were purchased. Anyone with hammer toes should consider this style. Unfortunately the local stores that still carry Mephistos in this area have dropped this style. I still like the height you gain by the heel, it makes you feel slimmer.

Great comfort. I have had these sandals for 2 years and I have worn them almost every day in some cases, as I work on my feet all day. These sandals will take you any where in comfort and look wonderful. I have received more compliments on these than I can believe. I also have the brown ones, but the black patent is so outstanding. The straps can be adjusted at any time to give you a wonderful fit. Love, Love, Love!

Ouch! I have several pairs of Mephistos which I love and I've heard so many rave reviews for the Elka, but these just weren't meant for me. I ordered the tan grain and the leather is so stiff. As soon as I put them on, I knew they would cause blisters even after loosening the straps. I tried walking around the house, but it just wasn't going to work. This is the most uncomfortable comfort shoe ever. I can't imagine trying to walk any distance in them. It's a shame because the arch is nice and high and they look so comfortable. Maybe the leather on some of the other colors is softer. The tan grain is awful.

Disappointed - Generally, I like Mephistos; however, they seem to always discontinue a known product that works for me. This is a new style for me, which I'm finding uncomfortable because of the hardness of the sole and leather. Also, because I have high arches, the upper buckle aggravates that area of my foot by the end of the day.

All Star Elka - These are wonderful shoes! I bought two pair, one in tan, one in black patent leather. I have sensitive feet and I also like to walk. These shoes support my feet and allow me comfortable strides on city streets.

Comfort in a walking sandal - These shoes are very comfortable, have a nice high arch and I love the color. They are a bit narrow, but adjustable. The only thing I don't love about them is the big name printed at the base of the strap, it's pretty big.

Best shoe style I've had - I purchased the black nubuck version of this in 1996. It traveled all over Europe and Africa with me and never did I get 1 blister! I've glued and glued the soles to the cork but the shoe finally wore out. My new pair is the tan leather and is just as comfortable. I do miss the nubuck, but look forward to another 12 years of wearing these new sandals -- without a blister!!

The most comfortable sandal I've ever worn! I have severe pronation and therefore need to have this size heel. Best arch support, also. I wear these all day and it's the only sandal I can do that with. Pricey but definitely worth the cost!

Great all around sandal - So comfortable with wonderful arch support. They mold to your feet and are never stiff or hard in your sole. I can walk all day in these and still look fairly stylish. Mephisto Elka - These sandals look like a work of art. They are as comfortable as they are beautiful. I most of the time wear an 8 1/2 and found the 39's a bit short, the 40's are perfect. I am a runner with high arches and have a hard time finding comfortable sandals that look wonderful - I loved the black patent so much I ordered a second pair in brown leather. Worth every penny.

Wonderful if they fit you! I needed a little lift for an Achilles tendon problem. These would have been the perfect height. Strapping felt secure so that you wouldn't "fall off" the shoe. I read that they ran so short and narrow. I wear 8.5 M in most sandals. The 39 (9) was not available so I ordered the 40 (10). Sadly, they are an inch too long so it threw off the arch. I did notice that the front is oddly narrow, but, more than that, they are a very straight last so it almost felt like you had on the wrong shoe. I will reiterate that these were too long so I couldn't really say how they would fit, other than they do run short and narrow in the front.

GREAT FLATTERING SHOE! Love this shoe! Great support all around and a perfect heel height. The diagonal straps are very flattering, even when your feet are puffy after a day of walking. I have the black patent and receive a compliment every time I wear them. Very comfortable footbed. If you haven't worn a quality supportive shoe for a while, this may take a time or two to get used to. Your foot is completely supported and because of the adjustable straps, there is very little movement side-to-side to cause discomfort. My only comment - - the front of the shoe does narrow considerably and if your toes are more "squared", you may initially feel a little rubbing at the small toe, but this does go away as the shoe "customizes" to your foot. Terrific shoe - wish they made this in some fun Nubuck colors!

Squeaky patent leather...yikes - Although the sandals are comfortable and look wonderful, they make an awful squeaky noise with every footstep. My only hope at this point is that it will eventually disappear. This is my second pair of Elka’s; it is a very slip on shoe.

Patent leather is stiff - I own a pair of the Elka’s in blue leather and they're wonderful. Comfortable, adjustable and good support. However, the patent leather version is not workable unless you want to live with blisters on the top of your foot. The edges of the straps are hard - just walking around in the house for 5 minutes produced discomfort. I wish they were available in plain black leather!

If you are stranded on an island and you can only take one pair of sandals...this is it! In the past 5 years, I have had two sprained ankles and a broken foot and I could not have made it without Elka! If you are currently in one of those "boots", this shoe has the perfect height to wear along with it. And after you are out of the "boots", the width can be adjusted to accommodate any residual swelling. Of course later you adjust the width back to your normal size. So that is just one reason why I think you should buy this. The other reasons are listed below! I have had Elka in various colors over the past 10 years but the black one is the one I have resoled two times already due to frequent wear. When you start wearing your pair and you notice how it molds to your feet completely, you will understand why you can never let an old pair go.

Great shoe - You need to wear this shoe for a day before it is comfortable, it needs to form to your feet. I have a very narrow foot AAAA and this shoe fit wonderful. Shoes with straps can be taken to a shoe repair shop and have extra holes put in. This is a wonderful shoe and very comfortable. I really love it.

I LOVE MEPHISTOS! This is my 3rd pair of Mephisto shoes and my first pair of Elka's and although they are "pricier" comfort shoes, they are WELL worth the money! I have worn all my Mephisto's year-round and until they are literally falling apart after a year or two or almost daily wear (and I am TOUGH on my sandals, on my feet all day with preschoolers, outside on the playground, running, etc.)...my only "complaint" is that once you start wearing them, your feet seem to get into "correct" alignment and spread into what their "normal" spread should be and, thus, all other brands of closed toe and dress sandals feel uncomfortable and too tight!! I always end up having to go back to either athletic sandals or my Mephisto's for comfort and proper foot support! And to those worried about them starting out a little "narrow" and "tight"---they really do loosen and stretch to fit and conform to your foot pretty quickly and have adjustable hardware to loosen them at first, and then tighten over the years as you wear them and they loosen. I simply cannot recommend them highly enough---that are fabulous!

Zappos.com continues to amaze me! I bought these sandals about a year ago. They didn’t fit properly, and I could tell that they were going to be uncomfortable even with the correct size. I then went through a process of moving twice and never had the chance to return them during the chaos of moving and settling in. I really didn’t expect them to work with me at all, but they still agreed to accept my return, and even sent a return shipping label so that I wouldn’t have to pay for the shipping. This experience took amplified the quality of their service to us.

Love Mephisto but Elka is 1 size too small - I was surprised that my toes hung over with this style (size 11 doesn't seem to correlate with the specific European sizing). Even though they were too small I can't wait for the correct size to arrive as you can feel that terrific Mephisto comfort just trying them on. I've worn a pair of Mephisto Helen's for so many years that the cork is finally starting to disintegrate. Even though he's not crazy about the Helen style, my husband keeps bugging me to just get a new pair of Helen's; that I've certainly got my money's worth but I won't part with my old pair even though they look pretty sad. That's how much we love our Mephisto's! Please rush Elka, I can't wait to wear a new Mephisto style.

I have 4 pairs of your sandals but this the style that fits best. I have very narrow feet, flat and double jointed feet so it is very hard, to say the least, to find sandals that are stylish and stay on my feet. I also have to be able to put removal arch supports in these sandals. I used to work at "The Goodfeet Stores" in Raleigh, NC and when I sold the arch supports to women showed them how your sandals could be adapted to wear the supports in them. I have worn this particular shoe for about 4 or 5 years and it is very thing I want, plus God only knows comfort. I have no fat on my feet so the uppers must be soft and these are. I also have 2 pairs of the sandals with velcro on the straps and had to take them to have buckles put on in order for them to stay on my feet.

My comfort for nine years - I discoved Mephisto Elka nine years ago and I have never worn another shoe since. I had been plagued with a bad back and sore feet for years and walking sandals were terrible looking. When I first bought Elka,my walking problems disappeared. I have bought them in every color available and wear nothing else. The black patent works very well for formal occasions. The styling is chic for a walking shoe. I am very warm-blooded and enjoy the coolness of Elka all year long and in every climate, including Alaska and Greece. As a senior citizen, I needed a shoe I could walk in comfortably anywhere at anytime. One word of warning; if you decide to have both black and blue pairs, be sure to dress in the light as they look alike in the dark; I wore a "pair" to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California and as we entered my date commented that "I'll bet you have a pair exactly like THAT at home". No one else seemed to notice but us, and it afforded us a good laugh.

Favorite sandals - I was happy to find this style again since I'd worn out my first pair. I have very narrow/slim feet and these adjust well for that. I had foot surgery last year and both prior to and since Elka's have been the sandals I go to first (other than tennis sandals and hiking boots). I like that they look wonderful with pants, shorts, skirts and dresses and feel good all the time.

A Mephisto classic. This is a marvelous sandal. It has good looks and wonderful comfort. The leather is initially stiff and unwelcoming, but in time it becomes friendly. It is also adjustable to fit a narrow foot.

Review of Elke - This is my third pair of Elke's. I have fractured my foot in the past and also have a neuroma on my left foot. The Elke's are the most comfortable sandals I own. They are also attractive enough to wear with jeans or skirts and some dresses. I plan to but them in every color.

Great for walking! I have owned several pairs of Elkas after they were suggested to me by my oncology physician group while going thru cancer treatment.I travel worldwide for business and they have gone everywhere. They are wonderful on cobblestones, beaches, in airports, in malls...everywhere. I dread when it is winter where I must travel when they can't go along with me.

A comfortable, pretty sandal - The Elka fits nicely, thoughtfully refusing to press on any bunions, and it looks good, even with floaty summer skirts. I note only one problem with this Mephisto sandal, and I'm sure it's not unique to this one style: I very much dislike the prominence of the Mephisto name on the side.

A couple of problems with this one - I bought this shoe a couple of years ago, and found that the cork bed soon started to disintegrate, so I superglued it. But I still find that I tend to fall off of the heel once in a while, so don't wear them when I have to do much walking.

The most comfortable shoe that can go anywhere - I was looking for sandals that would pretty much go anywhere. And, as I travel quite a bit, the Mephisto Elka was the one. These sandals have been to Cuba, Ireland, and recently to New Zealand, and Australia. I ordered another pair awhile ago, and am just as pleased. I've tried other well-known brands, but the Mephisto Elka was the most suitable.

My Elka - I have had my Elka's since 1998 or 1999 and I can't tell you how very wonderful they are. It took a bit of time to have the shoe form to my foot and then it was like walking on a cloud! I am still wearing them today (as we speak) and as I stood in line yesterday at a department store, they were noticed and admired! The very best Mephisto - This is a shoe that I wear all year round---just put on cosy socks in winter. So very comfortable--I have a high instep & wide feet--and the Elka looks quite chic. I have worn them for several years-- I think I have owned 6 or 7 pairs, currently have 4 colors--just wish they came in more smooth leather colors. I keep hoping that Mephisto will come out with a blue to match a blue Coach handbag that I was given as a gift. Also, I wish that Mephisto would offer Wide widths--that Hanka is so darling, but too narrow Mephisto is my shoe of choice--from my first pair called Rush, to the many pairs of Elkas--I am a fan for life. One other interesting thing to note, I had a painful neuromma on the bottom of my right foot which has gone away since wearing Mephistos--I guess having the good support helped it go away.

Better than going barefoot - This shoe is expensive, but worth the money. I bought this style about 5 years ago in tan, and now I bought the navy. It is one of my favorite sandals, especially because I have some foot issues that I try to hide (bunions).

Great looking, but still with the Cork Footbed - Mephistos have been the only sandal I can wear all day due to the need for a high arch. These sandals are extremely comfortable. They took a some time to break in as the upper was a little stiff, but now I can walk in them for hours. I bought them a year ago in the pink nubuck, and my only complaint is the look. I wish they were a little less clunky and available in light colors in smooth leather (it wears better than nubuck) and that the buckles were light colored also to match. But these sandals are absolutely the most comfortable ones I own -wish I could wear them in winter!

Mephisto Elka - I'm sorry but I own 2 pair of Elka's and I just don't get it! They are fair, but not that comfortable. I just like the way they look mostly. I also have feet problems, and find Simple brand good for me. I don't like the cork under the footliner, it's not that cushioned. I have a 3rd pair new and still in the box that I am going to put on Ebay, look me up! Over rated, and over priced.

Great for heel pain - This is my 3rd pair of mephisto elka. I have plantar fasciitis and have a difficult time finding sandals that do not cause heel pain. This shoe is the only shoe that I own that gives me the greatest comfort. I really recommend Mephisto for anyone will heel pain. I'm not sure what makes them so comfortable but I wear mine my every waking moment. As I can afford them, I plan on stocking up on other colors. I wish that there were more smooth leather choices instead of nubuck. In Alaska we have snow for a very long time and nubuck doesn't wear well. (I wear these in the winter too, with socks, and yes my feet get cold and wet but they don't hurt.) I would panic if they discontinued this style but I recommend trying other styles, everyones feet are different.

Mephisto Elka - black patent leather - The Mephisto Elka is a very comfortable shoe. I find they are an excellent walking shoe when I am travelling. I was pleased with the black patent leather because it has held up looking spiffy and new, whereas the nubuck in black looks more faded.

I know my comfort sandals! I believe one must take care of their feet! I REQUIRE comfort. After all, we walk around on our feet for the duration! That said, I am also VAIN! I want my feet to look good. No, I want them to look REALLY Good! Mephisto's Elka (Along with Clark's Veronica) manages to accomplish both goals!! I have been wearing Mephisto's Elka for many years. Elke- a wonderful all round sandal - I just wore this sandal on a trip to Italy. It worked out well with pants, capris, and even a short skirt. It was very comfortable, and the straps adjust for swelling feet. I did have to exchange a size 11 for a size 12.

Can't Lose with Elkas - The Elka sandal is a fantastic shock absorber. I am on my feet all day with third graders, arriving at work at 7:30, and leaving around 4:30. The shoes absorb the shock from the hard floors and corridors I'm on all day. I like the arch in these sandals, and I think they look sharp with pants and skirts. I have two pairs (white and brown) and will soon be getting a black pair. They are worth every penny because of the comfort.

I'll take comfort over style - I bought my first pair of Mephisto's this summer. I am a shoe-aholic. However, once I got the size right -- 42(12)-- for my actually 10.5-11 foot, I hardly wore any other sandals. I ordered the Elka last week based on the customer reviews. These felt like a dream the moment I put them on. I was hesitant to wear them out that night in case I should want to return them. No need to worry -- I haven't wanted to take them off. Just ordered another pair. I am most of the time a "style over comfort" type person, but I guess I will just have to change my ways and wardrobe. I have always had back problems and, as age takes hold, I have noticed knee problems. These shoe make a world of differenc. I wish Mephisto would offer closed toe sandals in a largr size. Much more economical to buy one pair of sandals that fit than several bargain sandals that don't.

Unbelievable comfort - These must be the most comfortable shoes out there. I most of the time wear heels but I love these. The black patent leather makes them just a little bit dressier. I could wear these all day and experience no discomfort.

Review of Elka - After purchasing these sandals, I expected the ultimate and have not gotten it yet. The biggest objection is that I have gotten a couple of little cuts from under the top buckle (the ones closest to my toes) where the leather has been rubbing on my foot. Hopefully as they wear in, this will not happen again. Otherwise, a wonderful fit.

I have worn two versions of this shoe for several years and have had each repaired once. I would like very much to have it in a narrow width. I have to punch holes in the straps to make it fit. That would be ok except that the strap is then too long. I have cut the straps off some but it is obviously not a professional job. I hate to pay that much for a sho that doesn't really fit.

Fantastic shoes. Worth every penny - They're not just stylish, they're comfortable, and how often do you get that combination? I've always had foot and back problems, and I'm a diabetic so I have to watch my feet carefully. The Elka has been a blessing in every area. They cushion my feet for more walking comfort, and they don't rub or chafe so I don't worry about them cutting up my feet either. One note: Mephisto are sold here by American sizes, but the sandals themselves are marked with European sizes. I can tell you that 41 feels true to my 10.5/11 feet.

Love this shoe - I own this shoe in seven colors and am waiting to see them in red. I have foot problems and this is the only shoe I can put on and immediately walk in. Also, I wear a ten narrow however, I ordered 11 (which is 41) and the foot bed is perfect and the only thing I need do is have extra holes put in the straps.

Complete relief from medical foot & back pain - I have a history of back and foot problems. These are the ONLY shoes I have found that I can wear that do not hurt my feet. I currently have to wear custom made inserts ($200) in all my other sandals all day or the pain returns. I discovered them several years ago after I tore the ligaments in my foot and couldn't go barefoot anymore. I have to wear sandals all the time except when sleeping to support my arch. The money I save on doctor appointments more than pays for the new shoes each summer. They are wonderful!

Comfortable - I am an Registered Nurse with flat feet and most sandals are not comfortable for me. This sandal is the most comfortable shoe I own. I wore them all summer and into the cooler weather (fall) with knee sox. I miss them now that snow is here.

Elka is Excellent - After two back surgeries, my feet seem to hurt all the time. The first week in these sandals, I remember thinking that these sandals were not so wonderful. After a month, my other sandals were uncomfortable and these sandals never left my feet this summer. I adjusted my work warddrobe around the sandals! They adjusted to my wide foot, protected my nerve damaged heel from impact, and were lightweight. I wore them on my vacation to the Dominican Republic, rainy, hot, and humid and they still look wonderful. The first week I owned them, I sprayed a suede protector on them so that probably helped. This was the best money on sandals I ever spent.

Mephisto Elka - I have two pairs of this shoe and avoid wearing any others in my wardrobe. I've been diagnosed with having a neuroma and this is the only shoe I can wear without feeling pain! I love them!

I'm hooked! I've owned this Elka for 3 years. I've replaced the cork bed once for 1/2 price through the manufacturer and now I need a new pair again! They show off your painted toes, and are really comfortable.

I love this sandal! Not very stylish but it sure is comfortable. I visited a friend in NYC and wore this shoe day and nite. My feet felt wonderful! A good sandal for someone with a narrow foot. You can cinch up the buckel for a snug fit.
