I'm old enough to remember the 70s version of high Frye wood wedgies. I'm therefore too old to be falling off my shoes (bones more brittle ;-) I have narrow feet and these only come in medium width. No worries! The cross strap and back strap are elasticized for individual fit. I love `em! The black are much tighter than the other two colors. I have worn the cement so far and they are very comfortable. I have a 10 minute walk up a hill to get to my office and had no problems. The cement color looks different in person. It is more of a khaki color with a greenish tinge. The cement color is not patent leather. I would highly recommend them if you can get a pair to fit. First because it was a half size too big and secondly because it just wasn't that cute in person. Good quality shoe, but just a bit too "mature" in person for those of us with a "funkier" side. I got them in the vanilla/peachy color and am not disappointed. I have to walk a lot for my job and I have found them to be comfortable from day one, with a sturdy sole and some padding. I haven't experienced any issues with hot spots. The only weird thing is they seem to flop around a bit as I walk. I think they will look great with everything from dresses to shorts. I just got them and I can see that the metal ring is going to be a little difficult to get used to, because it presses against the bones on the top of my foot. I am a bit worried that the back strap is eventually going to stretch too much that I won't be able to wear them any more; I'm already to the last hole on the buckle. It fits great I bought my regular size, 6 1/2 and it's perfect. No one in town has a shoe like this ;o) It is a total "wow". I love that "Frye" is an American Company deboot. The 8.5 fits perfectly. If you can navigate a four-inch heel, this one is surprisingly comfortable, especially considering the wooden platform and heel. These shoes are very sexy. The sole makes a sharp turn up at the toe, so when you walk there is an odd rocking of your foot. Otherwise it seemed comfortable, but for the price I wasn't taking chances.
